Tournament & Field šŸ†

The next Major has arrived as the world’s very best make their way out to Charlotte, North Carolina, in preparation for the 107th PGA Championship, which will be hosted by Quail Hollow Club. Normally, this is the host course for last week’s Truist Championship (formerly dubbed the Wells Fargo Championship), but the PGA Tour made the adjustment to a new course last week so that Quail Hollow could be prepped for the season’s second major.

This is truly one of the most entertaining and challenging weeks of golf across the entire year. Not only is the level of competition rivaled only by The PLAYERS Championship, but the selected course for each year’s PGA Championship is meant to provide one of the toughest challenges for golfers each season. The field consists of 156 players and includes 97 of the top 100 players in the Data Golf Rankings. You will notice several LIV Golf stars back in the mix this week (15 total LIV golfers are in the field). You’ll also see some virtually unknown golfers out there; as is the case with every PGA Championship, there are 20 spots given to PGA Tour teaching professionals who earned their qualification via the 2025 PGA Professional Championship. One thing to remember this week – for this week only, the cut rule will move to the top 70 and ties making the 36-hole cut. Best of luck this week!

The PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow this year, marking the first time it’s hosted this tournament since 2017—the site of Justin Thomas’ breakthrough major win, which he attained with an 8-under winning score. This venue is no stranger to big-time golf and brings plenty of muscle to the schedule, stretching over 7,600 yards while keeping a traditional Par 71 setup. It’s one of the longest courses golfers will see all season, and that length is particularly apparent on the Par 4s. Eight of them play over 450 yards, and several of the Par 4s can be absolutely punishing depending on pin location and wind. The course starts tough and ends even tougher, with ā€œThe Green Mileā€ (holes 16–18) presenting one of the hardest finishing stretches on TOUR.

Quail Hollow is a classic Southeastern parkland course—tree-lined, undulating fairways, and it’s full of danger off the tee. The fairways are long and winding but not overly wide, with plenty of doglegs, fairway bunkers, water hazards, and thick tree lines that punish anything off line. While it has a few scoring opportunities, most of this course is about survival and precise execution. The bent/rye overseeded greens are above average in size and speed, but even getting there is a challenge. Course history here shows that this place rewards elite ball striking across the board.

TPC Southwind and Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course are decent comps to Quail Hollow, but Riviera may be the closest match stylistically—long, demanding, and a second-shot test where elite tee-to-green players shine. From a DFS standpoint, I’ll be leaning on big hitters with solid long iron numbers, strong off-the-tee metrics, and proven success in majors and at other tough tracks. Form matters, but this is not a course where hot putters are going to carry mediocre ball-striking. It’s sure to be another exhilarating week with plenty at stake, so let’s dive in!

Weather & Tee Times ā›…

For anyone new to PGA DFS, we take a look at the weather to see if there is an advantage for golfers either teeing up Thursday morning/Friday afternoon (AM/PM wave) or for the guys starting their rounds Thursday afternoon/Friday morning (PM/AM wave). Your top priority in PGA DFS is to get 6-out-of-6 golfers in your lineups through the cut line and into the weekend – from there, anything can happen! If there is an edge to be had for either wave, it is important to take advantage!

āš–ļøWeather Verdict: The first two days are set to provide some nice golf conditions overall, and I don’t see much of an advantage for either wave. If you really want to nitpick, I suppose the golfers who get out there the earliest on Thursday will see the least wind, but the advantage would probably end up being minimal, at best. Saturday gets more interesting with winds and gusts kicking up, which sets the table for an interesting ā€œmoving day.ā€ Some semi-gusty conditions could also impact Sunday’s closing round.

PGA Championship DFS Model Standouts šŸ…

Below are the top 25 ranked golfers in both my overall model and my key stats model. Below that are the top 25 leaders in average finishing position over the last five and last ten starts. The players ranked on these lists do not necessarily mean they are the top golfers I’m targeting for this week's event, but many of these guys should no doubt be favorable DFS options.

Overall Model Rank: A golfer’s ranking (within the current field) in my personal DFS model, which weighs all of the key stats listed above in this newsletter, as well as factors like course history, recent form, recent average fantasy scoring results, and odds to win.

Key Stat Rank: Provides a golfer’s overall rank (within the current field) in my "key stats only" model, which considers only the key stats listed in the section above with the specified percentage weights allocated towards each statistic.

Note: LIV golfers are not included in the ā€œOverall Modelā€ and ā€œKey Statsā€ rankings as they do not qualify for PGA data. However, LIV golfers will be included in the recent/long-term form rankings.
